I know a session is going to go well when I get a hug from the little boy right when I arrive. That's what I love about kids. They don't hide their emotions.

Anyhoo, the Mom just let me go in the backyard and play with the kids and we had a blast. They should have slept well that night because I think I wore them out with having them chase me. One of my favorite images is where they just doing their own thing and totally forgot I was there. This little girl was so cute because she was just in her own world and I kept sneaking up and getting shots of her.

This client is on my Baby's First Year plan which is always exciting for me because I get to really know their fam and watch that baby grow. They were really laid back and li'l miss "future big sister" was a hoot. She squeezed right in the middle of the couple shot I was getting to create the cutest candid image! That was one of the magic moments when everyone is having a good time and it's caught on camera. Can't wait for the newborn session!

Oh, the neglected blog. I have been SOOOOOOOO busy working with clients and preparing the studio AND to top it off my baby has been super sick so the blog is on the backburner. Just wanted to let you know that I'm not dead ;0) and I hope to get things back to normal soon.

P.S. This picture has no purpose, it just makes me giggle. I gotta find me some of those pants (and maybe get my husband a sweet choker necklace like that for Father's Day).

I have been SOOOOOOO excited to finally blog about this! My friend, Emily, is opening up a Boutique/Studio in Reno where you can go to find your inner creativity. Not only do they offer tons of sweet classes for you to create things (like vintage aprons, jewelry, spa wraps, clipboards, wrag rugs and birdhouses-see pics on their blog) but you can also purchase those things as well.
AND AND AND... I am one of the teachers there so I will be teaching a "Mammarazzi" class there to teach you how to take better photos of your children (or grandchildren). The first class will be on June 20th at 1 pm and will be $45 each. Check out their site for more details.

It was the name of my Grandfather’s boat

Please explain a little bit about your product/business and how you developed the concept behind it:

We have a studio where we teach classes such as sewing, jewelry, birdhouses, etc. It is also a boutique where we sell local artist’s work. It is a place where women can express their artistic side.

What makes your product/business so unique?

We offer a place where women can come together, take a class, and be encouraged to find their creative side. There is nothing like Pickled Tink in our area.

What is the hardest part or have been some of your struggles starting your own business?

We started with an old rental house and had a much smaller overall plan of what Pickled Tink would be. Initially we thought it would take much less time to re-do and turn the building into our vision. Two months turned into seven, but we couldn’t be happier with the way it has come together.

How do you balance your business and your family?

My family is amazing and has been so supportive. I could not have done this without them. I know they all can’t wait for it to open so life can become somewhat normal again.What are some of your short and long term goals with your business? Short term we would like to have fun and get our name out. Our long term goal is to keep it simple and not lose sight of our initial purpose with all of this, to help women find their creative side.

Oh, I've been such a bad blogger but I have a good excuse. My Mom is in town and we are busy preparing for a studio/showroom in my home!!! We are workin' our booties off and I can't wait until it's done!

Anyhoo, this was a Model session that turned out EXACTLY like I envisioned in my head. First of all, this little girl is one of my returning clients and is crazy-cute! A friend sent me this and I really liked it. As a teenager, I always had big dreams and anything was possible for me. I envisioned all the great things I would do when I was a "grown-up."

I think that sometimes once we get to that "grown-up" stage, we forget to continue to dream...and dream big. We've seen so much reality that we let it get in the way of hoping for something better and thinking that it might actually happen. This year, I realized that it's those dreams that keep me going and that I still can accomplish anything even if I have a little more gray hair and some killer stretch marks. So don't forget to dream!

If there was ever a time to dare,

to make a difference,

to embark on something worth doing,

My 5 year old just discovered my husband's old skateboard from the garage and now thinks he is all that with it. He even posed on it without me asking (my kids are such hams!) That face he is making in the last photo is what I call "the look". It's his mischievous face that he has made ever since he was a baby. Love it!

Pimp my chair

This weekend we did some yardwork and de-cluttering and made a trip to the dump. When we drove past the furniture pile at the dump, a pillar of light shone down on this chair. Now, this may look like junk to some but to me, it has great potential so I took it home. I had my daughter try it out that night in some pics and I think it will rock for portraits! (I love the headshot of my daughter. I was squealing with delight when I looked at the back of my camera).

Here's where I need your help. The seat cover obviously needs some help. What would you do to this?? What kind of fabric could I use to cover it with? I need your help to make it FABULOUS!

This little man was such an angel for his session which surprised me since he was 4 weeks old (newborns photograph best around 3-7 days). He just curled right up and slept so peacefully. His Mama was a really chillax Mom so I think that helps. Aren't they gorgeous together?

Worry Less, Pray More

I am crazy-busy with all these Model Search sessions so I just wanted to share a quote that I read today that inspired me. It was on a post-it note at a store that said "worry less, pray more."

What a simple, yet profound statement. I think that is something that every parent and every person in this crazy world needs to remember. I sometimes get so busy with life that I forget to talk to God or thank Him for all the blessings I have. That is my goal this week to count my blessings and worry less, pray more.

Gerber baby

This little guy (well actually, he's not little, he's 16 lbs of cuteness at just 3 months) reminds me of the Gerber baby. He was the cutest little munchkin and was so happy! When I showed up at his Grandma's house, who by the way, has the most amazing blog for all things vintage called A Cottage Industry) he was asleep so I had to get a shot of him all curled up on this adorable bed.

Then we did some shots of him in this vintage bassinet that Tracey had and I love how it turned out. Don't you just wanna squish his cheeks?!

Spring Break

This week is Spring Break for my kids and we have just enjoyed chillin' at home. The kids have been begging to run through the sprinklers all year so we finally let them even though it was only semi-warm. They had a blast and played outside all morning. I enjoyed sitting in the sun reading. They even let me take a picture of them and they were being so cute and good for me! It was amazing!

I caught myself smiling while I was playing with these in Photoshop. This is why I do what I do...to cherish childhood and to make moms, like myself, smile with delight when they look at the portraits of their children and remember what life is all about.

P.S. I may have to get a large portrait for my wall since I hardly have any good ones of all 3 together. Which one is your fave?

They never got engagement portraits taken either so I wanted to capture their unique relationship which is pretty much them being silly together (like me and my hubby). Modeling Call for Newborns

Remember this Mom-preneur that does Henna? Well, we did a Maternity session combining her henna skills with my photography skills (I love using the word "skills"...reminds me of Napolean Dynamite-he.he.he). It was a really fun session that took place right at Yoga Loka (a yoga studio in Reno) after this client had the henna art done. She already had her baby so you'll have to see the newborn session when I post it next week.

Speaking of newborns, in addition to the Model Search that we are doing, I am doing a MODELING CALL FOR NEWBORNS. I have a lot of new ideas that I would like to try out. I would especially love to photograph more newborn twins, so if you know anyone that is expecting, send them my way. Here are the details:

Newborn parents will receive a complimentary newborn session (reg. $200), and a $50 print credit. Photographs are purchased seperately at our regular rates.
Session consists of Mom and baby only. Please make childcare arrangements for baby's siblings.
Models must live within 30 mins. of Carson City and will take place in the client's home.
Newborns must be 3-7 days old so it is important to call while you are pregnant.
A signed model release is required.
Please allow 2-3 hours for your newborn's session. Newborn sessions take a lot of patience!
Newborns must be due in April and May.

My husbands last name is Ware and many people have made little jokes so I thought I would play on my name and run with it. Our slogan is "Ware is, help when you need it!"

I have been in Software consulting, training and development for over 12 years.

Please explain a little bit about your product/business and how you developed the concept behind it:

As an advanced trainer of the Microsoft suite I know the programs inside and out and am able to quickly asses a clients needs and utilize off the shelf software to help them create a system that will work for their office.

What makes your product/business so unique?

I am an advanced trainer but I have worked in the professional environment for many years and understand how to apply things. Most trainers have little real world background and most IT people don't know the details of Microsoft software and other similar products.

My Mom is hot ~ Hot Mama session

Several weeks ago when my Mom came out to visit, we did a Hot Mama session for her. It was SOOOO much fun! She loved getting her hair styled and make-up done at Salon Chocolat and then, of course, we had a blast during her session. We giggled like school girls and I loved helping my Mom feel beautiful because she is, in every way. Oh, now I'm getting all choked up but it was so wonderful being able to share my talents with her after years of her selflessly sharing hers for me.

What book are you reading?

I LOVE to read but it's so hard to find time to do it when you are Mom. That is, until I discovered books on CD! It's amazing how much "reading" I get done while driving! It's also amazing how much driving I do taking kids to and from!

My current book on CD is called the "E-Myth Revisited" (I know, nothin' fun...I'm getting boring with old age) but this book ROCKS MY WORLD! If you are serious about running a business, this book is an ABSOLUTE must-have!

So what book are you reading right now? I need to know what my next book on CD should be.

France Photography is looking for fresh faces to feature on a new website we are launching (for photographers). We are in need of models in each age category:

0-18 mos., 2-3 yrs, and 4-5 yrs.

What do I get if my child is selected?

This is one of my Baby Plan clients (check out our new baby's first year plan on our children's site -it rocks!) and I actually got to take these portraits on the day of his birthday. We did a mock cake session and it was such fun! Little "R" didn't know what to do with himself when we set an entire cake in front of him. He obviously figured it out though! Happy First Birthday Baby "R"!

Registration is opening up for the 2nd round of Francypants Academy. Francypants Academy is an online mentoring course for photographers who want to take their photography and their business to the next level. It will start April 1st and go for 4 weeks if you want to do the "crash condensed course" or 8 weeks if you want to take it slow. You will be allowed access to the Francypants Academy Forum where my past mentees and I share the latest and greatest ideas for your business.

The other night my daughter came in after bedtime with a tooth in her hand! This is the first tooth she has lost (the other one was abscessed so we had to have it pulled at age 3). She was SO proud! She must have been wiggling it in bed because she pulled it all by herself. She was tickled pink when she woke up the next morning to $3 under her pillow (what's the going rate these days??) I was a little bit sad that she is getting so old! I don't like it!

Sacramento Senior Session ~ Urban Ballerina

This session ROCKED! We spontaneously found this old abandoned home on the side of the road as we were driving to our other location. It was perfect! The owner of the house even came over and gave us a tour and let me shoot some images indoors too. It was very cool and little bit spooky (there were masks in the windows-yikes!)

It has helped that this senior was bursting with personality so we had a LOT of fun! Her and her family drove all the way out from Sacramento because they wanted something different and unique for her Senior portraits.

Every year for St. Patrick's Day we make Leprechaun traps with the kids (well, I should say, Matt makes them and I document ;0)). This year's trap was especially cute. My daughter and husband created a ramp for the Leprechaun to go up into a trap door that says "Leprechaun Candy Store." Once he enters the door, there are two large holes inside that will trap him in there. My daughter is SURE it will work this year! We'll see. I don't know if I can handle another little person in the house...especially a mischievous green one ;0)

Babies in stilletos? That's what I'm talking about! One of my clients showed me these when I was dropping off her order. She was saying how we have to use them in her baby's next session and I'm ALL over it! They are soft little baby shoes with heels, called Heelarious. Aren't they the cutest things EVA?! Seriously.

This baby's parents are both firefighters so of course we had to take some shots of him in a fireman's hat. Getting a baby to sleep happily in a fireman's hat was a miracle in itself. I was impressed at how helpful this baby's Dad was during the session. He was like my personal assistant! And I am lovin' the way this little man is all nestled in his Dad's neck--makes your heart melt!

Oh and this image above is going up on their wall as a 30x40 canvas, which I am super excited about. I'll have to take pictures of it when we hang it for them.

I immediately bought a bag of chocolately goodness to devour before they go out of season again. When I was little, I used to watch Miss America pageants religiously. I secretly always wanted to be in a pageant but never had the "showy" talents I needed for it. One of my high school Senior clients is competing in the Miss America Miss Douglas County pageant (YOU GO GIRL!) and I'd like to help her out.

As a contestant, she needs your help to raise money for Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children's hospitals.

Her goal is to get $100 in donations. I know times are tough so all I am asking is that we all donate just $2. That's change you can find in between your couch cushions. If we get 50 people to donate, she will have reached her goal.

So we took the kids swimming for "Fun Friday" and my daughter busts out with a line that suits her so well:

"Mom, I'm not afraid of anything" she says right before she walks to the HIGH DIVE and jumps off!

Holy cow, was I proud. She also told me that she thinks she is a mermaid because "mermaids have pretty eyes and can see underwater." So I now have a mermaid for a child. Gotta love it.

I've been a bad blogger because my Mom came to visit us for a week. We had TONZ o' fun and she helped us so much with getting organized and watching kids while Matt and I worked on preparing some new products and things for the biz.

My kids were in a Fashion Show!

Baby Willows Boutique had a Fashion Show a couple weeks ago and asked my kiddos to be models in it. Judy, the owner, is the Queen of style. She dressed all of the kids SOOOOOO cute! I wish I would have gotten more of my own kiddos in their outfits but time was limited and my kids are photographer's kids which means they know how to act out to push Mommy's buttons. *Sigh* It was a blast though!

We are back from our trip and of course, I have a billion things to do and came home with a mean cold. Such is life. I have TONS to post so I'll start with this Mom-preneur, Kimberly, who does custom henna body art.

Business Name: Adorn

Where did the name come from?

The name 'Adorn' seemed to me to encapsulate the way I feel when wearing henna - it's a little exotic, dramatic, and really beautiful. There's something about wearing henna body art that makes you not only feel decorated, but feel like you're precious and WORTH being decorated. That's what I wanted to convey with the name. There is something about drawing a henna design on a pregnant mother (whether it's on hands, feet, or belly) that really highlights this sense of celebration and blessing.

How long have you been doing this?:

I began drawing with henna in 2005 when I was pregnant with my second child - I actually bought some henna paste so I could decorate my own belly in celebration. I fell in love with the art form, and I've been playing around with it ever since; drawing on anyone I could get to sit still long enough. In December 2008 I decided I wanted to make this into a business venture, and began offering my henna artwork to students and visitors to Yoga Loka (a yoga studio in south Reno where I teach vinyasa and prenatal yoga classes). I love doing henna of all sorts, but I'm especially excited about the opportunity to bless mamas and babies. I'm hoping that my prenatal yoga connection will lead to the chance to decorate many pregnant bellies.

Explain your business and how you developed the concept behind it:

This endeavor started with my henna hobby, and expanded as I subsequently began experimenting with other media. I am trained as a scientist (I have a Ph.D. in plant ecology) but as the mother of three young children (ages 6, 3, and 1), I decided that the academic world was too family unfriendly and I'm taking a break from academics in order to raise my children. By expanding my hobby into a business I hope to create a situation where my livelihood is not in conflict with my ability to enjoy my life.

I work in three different media to create beautiful and temporary adornment for the skin to provide ephemeral beauty and fun for adults and children alike. They are henna, jagua and glitter.

What makes your business so unique?

I know of only a handful of henna artists and I am the only person I know who also works with jagua and glitter. I offer the opporunity for safe, natural, painless, and temporary body art for people of all ages. I think pregnancy henna is particularly unique - this is one of the few things a pregnant women can do safely to decorate her gorgeous body, and it lasts longer than body paint and has a long and significant history. I am also excited about offering glitter tattoos for children's events. They provide a similar sense of celebration and fun as face-painting, but they last much longer and are beautiful collaborations between myself and the children who choose the designs and colors.

I am the 'artist in residence' at Yoga Loka in Reno (6135 Lakeside Dr. #121) every Saturday starting at 12:00 PM and walk-ins are welcome. Struggles/difficulties starting a business:

I think the hardest part has been spreading the word and letting people know what I do. I've never been really good at promoting myself, and obviously starting a business necessarily entails self promotion!

Balancing business and family:

My husband is wonderfully supportive, and watches the kids when I am at my weekly sitting at Yoga Loka or if I'm booked for a special event. I have had clients come over to my home during my kids' naptime, and done private appointments while the babies are sleeping. This is one of the most exciting things about starting this business - it should be possible to create my own schedule to conflict as little as possible with family time. As the weather warms up and people are ready to bare more skin to decorate, I imagine my schedule will fill up, and it will take pre-planning to ensure there is little conflict.

Short and long-term goals:

I envision this remaining a small and intimate business in the long term, with a few clients per month; large enough to be rewarding and interesting, but small enough to allow me to make my family my priority. I would love to see expectant mothers and mothers of newborns become my core clientelle for henna art. I think henna lends itself so well to celebrating the beauty of the body and of birth. I would also love to become better known as an affordable option for kids' birthday celebrations!

Matt and I are at a sweet photo workshop in the tiny town of Washington, Illinois. As much as I adore my kiddos, this will some much needed time with hubby. It's a good thing they didn't come too because that 4 hour plane ride would have majorly sucked if we had to try to keep them happy for that long. Instead I read Twilight and THOUGHT without interuption. It's amazing the clarity you can have when have time to think.

You know you are a bad blogger when your sister calls you and asks if everything is okay because you haven't posted on your blog in a while. Yep, Ash (and everyone else), everything is fine. I just had sick kids for the past week and a half that have kept me from my regular routine.

So today, I wanted to do another blog feature on a local Mom-preneur. I have had lots of interest in the Mom-Preneur thing so I will probably continue to feature them each month.

Sarah Zeron is the owner of a rockin' salon here in dowtown Carson City, Salon Chocolat. She recently relocated and let me tell you, her salon is TO DIE FOR!!! When I peeked in the windows before it had officially opened, I gasped in awe. It's gorgeous! Oh and not only is it gorgeous but they are uber talented at hair! How did you come up with that name?

Who doesn't Love Beauty and Chocolate? The two seamed to fit.

I have been doing hair for 10 years.

Please explain a little bit about your product/business and how you developed the concept behind it:

My business is a beauty salon, the concept would be making people feel and look beautiful all day long.

What makes your product/business so unique?

What makes my salon unique is that you are able to indulge yourself in beauty and chocolate. We also offer a full Color Bar where client can watch us customize their hair color and know that what we do just does'nt come out of a bottle--that we actually can formulate hair color to each persons needs. Also, there is a Lather Lounge were we turn the experience of a simple shampoo to the luxury of a spa treatment. Skin services are available and our special Berry Chocolate facial will indulge anyone.

Do you have a store-front/ website/ etsy?

What is the hardest part or have been some of your struggles starting your own business?

The hardest part about starting my own business is finding the money to do it and the right people to work with. This is still an ongoing struggle for me.

How do you balance your business and your family?

Right now it is extremely difficult. I work it out so that while they are in school I can get most of my work done. I do have to spend a couple of nights and saturdays at work but my husband is very supportive. As far as short term goals for my business, I just hope that I can survive these tough economic times. I hope that I can find a couple more hairdressers that share my passion for hair. Right know I'm taking it month to month. So far so good.

As far as my long term goals for my business go, I hope that God can grant me the grace to keep doing what I love and stay in this beautiful salon that He helped me build. I would love to be able to have enough clients and support from the community to expand to a retail clothing store as well. We'll just have to wait for that. If I can find some passionate people to work and help me indulge Carson City and abroad with Beauty and Chocolate that would be enough for me.

40 Tips for a Better Life in 2009

1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.
2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
3. Buy a DVR and tape your late night shows and get more sleep.
4. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, 'My purpose is to __________ today.'
5. Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.
6. Play more games and read more books than you did in 2008.
7. Make time to practice meditation and prayer. They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.

9. Dream more while you are awake.
10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants. Eat less food that is manufactured in plants. 11. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli, almonds & walnuts.

13. Clear clutter from your house, your car, your desk and let new and flowing energy into your life.

Since January is my official "Mom Month," I will be featuring several local Moms who, like me, who like me, created their own business out of a great idea or by doing something they LOVE to do. I will be interviewing these inspirational women in their blog feature.

Our first Mom-preneur, Carrie, is the owner of Cadillac Cowgirl. We both had booths at the Candy Dance which is where I fell in love with her jewelry and purses. Check out her interview below:

What is the name of your business?

Cadillac Cowgirl Co.

How did you come up with that name?

Well..... Cadillac represents a "fancy/classy" type of a car, therefore saying that a cadillac cowgirl is a real cowgirl with fancy and classy taste.

How long have you been doing this?

One year.

Please explain a little bit about your product/business and how you developed the concept behind it:

I make/design cowgirl necklaces. It's really hard to find cute and sassy cowgirl stuff in this area, so I started making my own.

What makes your product/business so unique?

My jewelry is funky, fun, and one of a kind.

Do you have a store-front/ website/ etsy?

I do not have a store front ( I did have a booth at the candy dance in Genoa, NV). I operate by word of mouth and through my website: http://www.cadillaccowgirlco.com/

What is the hardest part or have been some of your struggles starting your own business?

I have had to learn more about technology, being 36 I learned how to type on a type writter in high school.

How do you balance your business and your family?

I have identical twin girls that are 7 and a boy who is 4. The kids like to help me string necklaces, and even like to design their own. I am also a middle school Health/PE teacher.

What are some of your short and long term goals with your business?

Currently I am having fun with this business. I intend to keep this business small while the kids a still little. I am networking and getting my name out to vendors who have booths at rodeos, ropings, and horse shows. I have sold a large portion of my necklaces wholesale to these type s of vendors. I had quite a few of my necklaces for sale at the Cowboy Christmas Show in Las Vegas for the National Finals Rodeo.

From Caden's Family

I just wanted to share a letter that Caden's Family sent us and add my personal thanks to all who contributed to Caden's Cause this Christmas.

Dear Friends,

There are so many things we are thankful for and one of them is the tremendous amount of support we've received from all of you.

As you know, our three year old son, Caden, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. We are so thankful that the tumor, although malignant, was operable. Our family has been blessed to have lodging at the Ronald McDonald House in Palo Alto, California where Caden is undergoing radiation treatments. There are many emotions that come with a personal crisis and this has been a very traumatic and exhausting experience for our family.

There is one thing that we would ask you to do. We know that you love and appreciate your families, but we want you to love them all just a little more; more hugs, more kisses, as life is so precious, pure and simple.

Everyone has been so compassionate, extremely generous and helpful and there is no way that we can thank you all enough.

January is "Mom Month"

I have unofficially declared January "MOM MONTH" because I have some fun things I will doing for and with Moms.
This is a good post to start "Mom Month" off with because this Mom RAWKS!!! She has 6 kids, which is an accomplishment in itself! She's supercool and sweet! You can tell her kids adore her. And of course, their Dad is a awesome too. He's our Chiropractor and does a great job (he's even worked on all my kids) so if you need fixin' call Dudley Chiropractic (how do you like that shameless plug, Tom?)

They are SO High School Musical and got some serious air on these jumps! Must be the all the chiropractic treatments.

What's on MY wall? Part 2

I like to mix these up in my house. Last year, I had 3 large 20x24 Gallery Wrapped Canvas' over my couch. I moved those to another wall, got a cool Pottery Barn couch, and put this up. It features twelve 12x12's and I love it! I wanted to show off a LOT of images of my kids since I take so many including some silly ones. My kids love seeing themselves on the wall. It shows them that I think they are important. This wall makes me smile!

He.he.he. My baby thinks he is a superhero when he puts underpants on his head. That's what I love about kids. They do everything to the fullest degree because they don't care what anyone thinks of them. Hmm...maybe I should put underwear on MY head so I can be fearless like my little Captain Underpants.

Okay THIS is how I get my baby fix. It's little munchkins like Miss Stella (LOVE her name) that help sustain me from poppin' out a baby every 9 months.
Her Mommy gets the award for "most peed-on client"! I think baby Stella got her like 4 times in one session!!! She is officially sworn in as a mother now (he.he.he) but it was all worth it!
Okay and the first image makes me giggle so hard. It's more of an outtake than anything. Her Mama was burping her and Miss Stella just started sucking on her hand and made that classic face.
Check out her little faux-hawk too. SO adorable!

I'm back!!!

This Christmas we flew to Colorado to be with Matt's family for 10 days which is why I've been such a blog slacker! It was so nice to just chill with all his siblings. There were 17 people total in his Mom's house so it made for some good times. Oh and the food...the food was to die for! Everyone took turns cooking and I am pretty sure that I am AT LEAST 5 lbs heavier. Thank heavens for New Year's Resolutions ;0). I also have to mention the LOVELY-THOUGHTFUL-ROMANTIC gift that my hubby gave me. In addition to the Twilight books (that I am hooked on), Matt got me a ballroom dance date for us to go on! He knows that I looooooooooove to boogy so brownie points for him.

Anyhoo, now that we are back I'm playing catch-up on everything so I'll try to keep this short but I am SO pumped for 2009 for France Photography! We have a lot of exciting things we are going to be doing and some new products to share. One of my goals for 2009 is to post everyday except for Sundays (which is our church and family day) so keep checkin' back for daily updates.

To start the New Year off, we are now official members of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). Woot-woot!

Meal for the masses

Just had to share this killer recipe that I am making for the whole fam-damily. It's DARN easy (you make it in the crockpot) and good. Oh and it's fat free ;0) (minus the entire pint of whipping cream-he.he.he)

Tomato Chicken Fettuccini
3 chicken breasts (I used frozen, & it worked fine)
2 cans stewed tomatoes
1 bunch green onions, chopped
1 t. oregano1 t. basil
2 cloves minced garlic
*you could probably add artichoke hearts, sliced mushrooms, or whatever else sounds good.

*Put all above ingredients in a crock pot on low for 8 - 10 hours.
Combine in separate bowl:
1 pint whipping cream
3 eggs
1-2 c. parmesan cheese
Pour in crock pot for last hour of cooking.

Serve over Fettuccini.

YUMMY!

Thinking outside the self

I think it's easy to fall into a selfish trap. We get so involved in our own busy-ness that we forget what really brings J.O.Y. That is: putting Jesus first, Others second and You last. This fall, I sort of forgot that in my struggle to just survive everyday life. It was not until another photographer friend, Kristen Kalp, started www.givingisawesome.com that I decided to think outside the self. It has had a profound effect on me. It was so humbling to hear others' stories and struggles and realize all of the blessings that I enjoyeveryday. Service is so rewarding because you forget your own troubles and find happiness in helping. It has a ripple affect too.

Kristen Kalp, the founder of www.givingisawesome.com encouraged portrait photographers everywhere to help a family in need this Christmas season. This challenge from ONE PERSON has had incredible results all over the world. Approximately 486 photographers contributed over $500,000 in custom portraits.

Her example showed me that one person really CAN make a difference. She is one of the reasons that I started the post on Caden's Cause. I just really wanted to help. We were able to give Caden's family $2,057 in donations from over 60 photographers and blog readers. It was truly a Christmas miracle! Thank you to all who donated!

Anyways, I had a hard time narrowing it down to just one nominee for the portrait give-away so I chose two. Their stories touched my life and I hope to be able to touch theirs. Each family will receive $500 in portraits from France Photography.

Here are their stories:

NOMINEE #1
This woman is a CNA at the hospital with me. She has quite a story and yet is someone who never complains. She is a single mom of 2 kids. Actually she has three kids, but her youngest daughter died at the age of two from Leukemia. After spending tremendous amounts of time at the hospital with her daughter, she decided that she wanted to become a CNA. I can't imagine after going through something like that that you'd ever want to even step foot into a hospital, but she did and she is absolutely amazing with the kids and their families. She also has a daughter, Brittany, who is 22, and a son Nicholas, who is 15. Her daugher Brittany goes to WNC and will be the first one from their family to go to college. Her son Nicholas is deaf and also has ADHD. Her husband, Dan, died about 4 years ago leaving her a single mom. She is an amazing mother to her children. She works so hard just to get by. She works days, she works nights, she is always willing to help co-workers out whenever they ask. She works 48 hours a week and even after the over-time and extra hours there is never enough left over for extras. I know she would absolutely love to have some amazing pictures of her family. They never take pictures! She always tells me that when she dies, her kids will have like 2 pictures of her and they will be from when she was 15!

NOMINEE #2
I would like to nominate my sister. She is a momma to two beautiful little ones. Katie and Colton. Katie's daddy just up and left one day so she came home to live with my mom(she was in Utah)and she got back on her feet a little. She met another man who is the daddy of Colton. Colton was born very prematurely at 29 weeks I believe. He almost didn't make it. He had a brain bleed and now has a permanent shunt in his brain. In the meantime my sister had to move out from my moms house and find her own place. They struggle daily with bills from medical bills, and medical needs, and just getting by. They barely have money for general necessities. So while they are trying to get on their feet our mom sadly, and suddenly passes away( this May). Just another blow to take our family down. I know in my heart, that winning this would mean the world to her. She is so beaten down with all the awful things that have happened that I would love for her to have this and know that people still do care and life can be great sometimes!
